Can I use a blood sample from other areas on my body with the ACCU-CHEK Aviva blood glucose system?

Yes. Check with your doctor to see if testing from alternate sites is right for you. In addition to fingertip testing, the ACCU-CHEK Aviva blood glucose meter can be used with blood samples from the palm, forearm, upper arm, thigh, or calf, to help protect your sensitive fingers. Recent studies have shown that testing from the palm is less painful than the finger and it may be more convenient than other sites.1

What is the testing time for the ACCU-CHEK Aviva system?

You will receive fast and accurate results in 5 seconds.

What is the blood sample size needed for the ACCU-CHEK Aviva blood glucose meter?

A small sample of 0.6 microliter.

Can you double dose the ACCU-CHEK Aviva blood glucose meter?

It's unlikely that you'll need to. The wide-mouth strip attracts and absorbs the drop of blood-it's designed so you can fill the strip on the first try. But if you apply blood and don't see the hourglass flashing, you can reapply more blood within five seconds.

Is the ACCU-CHEK Aviva blood glucose meter covered by insurance?

The ACCU-CHEK Aviva meter, test strips and lancet drums are "preferred" on most healthcare plan formularies, which may mean your out-of-pocket costs are the lowest available. In addition, ACCU-CHEK products are covered by Medicare.2

What type of battery is used?

The meter uses one 3-volt lithium battery (type CR 2032) found in many stores.

Is the time and date or memory lost when batteries are removed?

When the batteries are changed, no memory is lost.

Which software may be used with the ACCU-CHEK Aviva meter?

You can download test results to your PC with ACCU-CHEK Compass software or the Diabetes Assistant® program, our online log.

How should my meter checks compare with lab results?

Because your monitor and lab tests don't measure the same thing, these numbers are likely to vary. Lab tests generally test plasma, but a meter uses whole blood. As a result, even if you take both tests at the exact same time, your meter is likely to show a lower number than the lab results. This is perfectly acceptable, and your doctor will already be factoring this in.

Keep in mind, too, that even a small amount of food or liquid, or performing a fingertip check more than five minutes before or after getting your blood drawn, can change your blood sugar level enough to throw off any comparison.
